Leland, Michigan

Entering the marked channel at Leland.

These old motors were on display at The Cove Restaurant.
                              Docks were pretty at night.
                                           Full moon!
Carlsons - home of smoked fish - I liked it - Jeff, not so much.
So many Petoskey Stones we found, after the storm.
                                    Dam Candy Store.
Leland Blue stones - they’re sooo small.
                            Flowers decorated the bridge.
                                      Beautiful sunsets!
The river coming into the town of Leland.  When the salmon are running, you can see them jumping up the waterfall.

A painted mural - appropriate for Leland.
                                         Fishtown sign.
Couple of ducks in the sunset.
We bought freshly, picked sweet corn here. Cute wagon.
                              A shoe store in Fishtown.
The Cove Restaurant - excellent seafood chowder!

A friend of mine, Jill, on Smile with the Risin’ Sun, had told me that Leland was a pretty cool spot. It was! There wasn’t a lot there but the vibe was so laid back and pretty special.

When you leave the dock at the municipal marina, you walk right up to Fishtown - can’t miss it! Fishtown is a bunch of historic fishing shanties, selling t-shirts, shoes, candy, etc. there’s also a downtown area, with many souvenir shops.

The river runs right into town and when the salmon are spawning, you can see them jumping a waterfall. We didn’t get to see it (too early), but others after us had video of it.

While in Leland, we were with friends, Jeff and Kim, on Sea the USA and Shelly and Chuck on Chaniel. We enjoyed a few meals at The Cove Restaurant. Chaniel invited us over for a delicious dinner - a lowboil! Shelly and I also had some wine tasting as at a local winery.

We stayed at the municipal marina for 4 nights - perfect spot! There was a nice clubhouse, showers and laundry. Some left the following day, but I wanted to linger and spend some time at the beach. One evening, we enjoyed docktails, with several other loopers. We met Port-A-Gee and of course, many loopers!

We made lots of walks on the beach and found several Petoskey Stones and a few small, Leland stones. We’ve been looking for these for a while now. At least, my souvenirs are cheap!
