Boomerang - 09/13/2022

We've finally taken the plunge - that could be a bad play on words.  Let’s say, we’ve finally purchased our looper boat. We've been on a quest to find a boat, for a couple of months now. We've traveled more than 3000 miles in search of the perfect one. We had certain criteria (budget, seaworthy, dinghy, A/C, heat, trailer, electronics, bed, toilet, galley, tall ceiling for Jeff, etc.) and we located one in Webster, New York (near Rochester).  We traveled there twice to get this boat - once by plane and then by truck. It’s a 14 hour drive, but she fit the bill, so we had to go. It’s a Rosborough 246, trailerable, 25 ft., single, outboard engine (Honda 225) small, cabin cruiser.  She’s in great shape, clean and ready to go!  The previous owner took great pride in ownership and we were lucky to find her, just in time! She's a small boat; but it's just a vessel to get us from point A to point B and to have a view of the country from a different perspective.
We purchased the boat to travel the Great Loop.  The Great Loop encompasses the eastern half of the USA on inland rivers, intracoastal waterways and just a little open water. It's safe and completed by loopers every year. Why do we want to do the Great Loop?  Have we lost our minds? We've wondered that ourselves, but several years back, we were in St. Genevieve, MO and met a guy who had cruised these waterways. We were intrigued and in awe of his adventure.  He planted a seed in our minds and now, we have the opportunity to do this.  We just sold our house and it is perfect timing.
We named our boat, Boomerang, because we will eventually return home. We’re not sure when we will be back; I guess when we’re ready, but typically it takes about a year. We’re also the last of the baby boomers - another reason for the name. Our plan is to start our loop on Kentucky Lake and head south.
Of course, we’re taking our dog, Traxx.  He’s a pretty good travel dog; he doesn’t care for other people and he barks a lot, but he’s a great watch dog.
We are hoping to start November 1, 2022 and today is October 13, 2022. I think we enjoy doing things "spur of the moment,” as it seems that’s what our life has been like the last few months! (from selling the house, moving to a camper and then moving to a boat - all in less than 3 months!).  Or maybe, we're just procrastinators, but at least we work good under pressure.  I’ll be posting pictures and stories of our journey here.  Please keep us in your prayers and think of us often.

    1. We're going to try and leave Thursday - weather dependent. We're meeting other loopers here - doing the same thing we are, in different stages of their trip.

    1. Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying it. It is a small vessel - has advantages and disadvantages, as with every boat, I suppose.
