Finally, we made it to the Chesapeake Bay! Our first stop was Portsmouth, VA.  Basically, Portsmouth is on the opposite side of Norfolk, VA. Norfolk is big, with skyscrapers, traffic, big hotels, etc.  Portsmouth is smaller and more quaint.  We stayed at Tidewater Marina - it was a nice marina. They had all of the amenities and a restaurant, Fish and Slips.  We spent some time there at happy hour.

There’s a lot to see and do in this area.  We toured the USS Wisconsin, toured a light ship and went to the Chrysler Museum (a huge art gallery).  So many big naval ships in the water too! We also had some of the best pizza at High Street Pizza (Portsmouth) and we’re pizza snobs. We rated the pizza to be in the top 4!  Of course, the pizza close to home, Quatro’s, Pizza Villa and Sinisi’s are the top 3!

We just happened to arrive in Portsmouth at the same time  AGLCA was occurring in Norfork, so there were a lot of loopers there.  We met a few new loopers, Bob and Mary on Changing Latitudes and we ran into some people we hadn’t seen in a while, James and Lorraine on Northern Escape.  Of course, we met even more loopers at docktails one evening. Our friend, Nagui, on Boundless, was here and so we’re Rod and Stewart on Sea Turtle.  We also were able to celebrate with Ron and Melinda, on Charley Girl, when they crossed their wake!

Weather kept us in Portsmouth for a solid week!  We didn’t want to spend that much time there and was hoping to cruise the Chesapeake a bit.  There’s so much to see but the Chesapeake is big and can kick up, so when we had a good travel day, we went to Solomon’s  Island.  We want to spend a lot of time in Canada, so we need to move!
