Frankfort, Michigan (8/31/23)

A pretty spot in Beulah.
I think I found a few Leland blue stones. They were tiny.
I found both of these stones!

The town of Beulah - not a lot - but a change in scenery.
Lake Michigan is very nice! Caribbean of the North!
Nice green space for Traxx.
Entering the harbor.
Beautiful flowers at a park kept up by the community.
This is the Coast Guard station.
Reminded me of the Anna-Jo community garden near
McDonald’s in Anna.
We walked to Elberta one day - not a lot there.
Downtown Frankfort, Michigan.
The Hotel Franklin - originally built in 1869 to house sailors off of Lake Michigan. Following a fire, this house was rebuilt in 1932 - 1933 and rumor has it that the owners were good friends with Al Capone. Between the hotel and other buildings were tunnels, built to provide a quick getaway for the gangster.
Traxx loves the beach! And he can drink this water!
Lake Michigan was a bit sporty!
On a bluff in the residential neighborhood
Overlooking the Lake Michigan.

Sunrise
Foggy sunrise. We finally left this day!
Foggy sunrise.
Trying samples of beer at Old Town Grill and Tap. Most
Places don’t allow this many samples! They were great!
A huge prop displayed on the way to Alberta.
A church we came across on our one of our walks.
                          Nice homes on Leelanau Street.
This is a huge cliff on the beach of Frankfort.

We’re on a bluff overlooking the beach at Frankfort.
                              Just relaxing on the boat.

                                  Inside Hotel Frankfort.
                                      Frankfort Hotel.
                          Dining room in Frankfort Hotel.
No laundry facilities at the marina - had to walk to
                                    The local laundromat.

Chris, from Pau Hana, snapped this picture as we were leaving.
Beth from Pau Hana and I catching up.
Fall is approaching with cooler temperatures - even the
                                   Ducks are tucked in!

Various artists drew street flags for the town of Frankfort.

I was looking forward to Frankfort. Our friend, Pam from Sea the USA, just raved about the place. It was a nice stop, but not a nine day stop! Dang that weather!

We stayed at the municipal marina. It had all of the amenities -except laundry! And we were there nine days - that requires laundry, even in a real house! (Hence, the picture of the downtown laundromat). Other than that, the marina had nice showers, power, water and green space for Traxx. And whatever amenities the marina lacked was made up by the friendliness and kindness of the staff! One day, when Jeff went to pay for our slip, they gave us our slip for free!

The downtown area had shops, restaurants and a brewery; Jeff wasn’t crazy about the beer at the Stormcloud Brewery. However, we enjoyed Old Town Grill and Tap - a nice selection of beer and decent food too. The bartender was really nice as well! There were a couple of other restaurants we tried, Dos Arboles which was Mexican - good, but a bit expensive. I ordered a large margarita, expecting a huge glass - sadly disappointed. I even questioned the waitress to ensure I had ordered and received a large margarita! The food was good though - not as good as the food from Little House of Tacos in Cobden!

We also tried Villa Marine Bar and Grill. It was ok. The guy working there was very nice so I guess that made up for the mediocre food. One other place we tried was Vita Bella Italian Kitchen. We had pizza. Again, just ok pizza. I think we have the best pizza around and we miss it - Quatros, Pizza Villa and Sinisi’s! We are so looking forward to all of these when we get home!!

Since we were there for so long, we took the Benzi bus to Beulah. It’s local transit and only charges $3 per person - such a great accommodation for the community. Beulah was small, smaller than Frankfort, but provided different places to go. They had a lovely beach on Crystal Lake. I found a lot of Frankfort stones there - green rocks. There was a brewery; however we chose to to go Beulah when the brewery was closed. We did enjoy lunch at Hungry Tummy Bar and Pub (taco Tuesday - tacos for $2) and had a few drinks at Lucky Dog Var and Grille.

During our extended stay, we enjoyed dinner with loopers a couple of nights. One evening, we ate with Rob and Doris on Livin’ Life and about 3 other boats. I can’t remember their names. But we initially met Livin’ Life in Alabama. We also enjoyed dinner with Chris and Beth on Pau Hana, (and others) another looper we had met previously.

We walked to Elberta, another town close by. The only thing open was an antique shop - that’s it. At least we got our steps in that day! It was a nice walking path too.
