St. Anne & Carillon Locks
Carillon Lock.
St. Lambert Lock
We took a walk to the tiny town near St. Anne Lock. Standing on top of the Carillon Lock.
Carillon Lock.
It’s so tall - Carillon Lock.
St. Anne Lock.
This is a lock on the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Leaving Montréal, as we were making our way to Ottawa, we had 4 locks to go through - St. Lambert Lock, Cote Sainte Catherine Lock, St. Anna de Bellevue Lock and Carillon Lock. St. lambert and St. Catherine were not part of the Parks Canada pass, so we had to pay to lock through; it was about $25US for each lock. The first two locks were commercial locks, but we did not lock through with any commercial vessels, which was nice.
Leaving Montréal, we paid more attention to the weather! We had too. It was rough pulling into Montréal and we wanted smoother sailing getting out of there. And thankfully, we timed it well, ensuring that there wasn’t much wind to complicate the current.
We ended up staying one night each at St. Anne Lock and Carillon Lock. Both of these were part of the Canada Parks Pass, so we could dock for free. The lock sites were very tranquil and in a rural setting; not much around either place, but we did get out and walk as much as we could.
Carillon Lock was huge! It was a guillotine lock, with a 200 ton guillotine lift gate - pretty impressive. Much different that the swing doors on the other locks. The other neat thing about this lock, is you tied up your boat to a dock in the lock. You could walk around in the dock while locking through!
We will be making our way toward Ottawa and onto the Rideau Canal! We’ve been looking forward to this leg of our journey!
