Cruising into the New York Harbor was surreal! You could see the unmistakable skyline, coming into view, from so far away; and it seemed to take forever to get there! The water was a little choppy but not bad - not as bad as we anticipated. Finally, we started to see Lady Liberty!
We were traveling with our friends, Malcolm and Rachel on Stay Cool. As we passed Lady Liberty, we took a several pictures and videos of each other in front of her. It was so exciting to be in the harbor and having the Statue of Liberty as our backdrop.
We stayed at Liberty Landing Marina on the New Jersey side. It’s supposedly less expensive than marinas on the New York side, but at $7 a foot, I’d hate to see what their prices are! It was a very nice marina and we received a small, soft-sided cooler with our stay. Behind the marina were some very nice trails to walk and a deserted train station to explore. More pictures were taken that night of the New York skyline.
The next day, we took a ferry to Manhattan. Our plan was to see the 911 Memorial, Times Square, Central Park and have some New York pizza. We thought the easiest way to see these sites was to go on a hop on/hop off bus. In hindsight, it wasn’t the best idea. We were in traffic most of the time and ended up having to take the subway to catch the ferry, before its last trip to Liberty Landing Marina. However, we saw a lot from the bus and had a great time with our friends.
