Hello Georgia!

                                      A driftwood tree.

                                          Bike trails

As we left Florida, the landscape started to change. We began to see less palm trees and more marsh land.  Hard wood trees started to emerge and sand became darker and less of it.

We landed on Jekyll Island on April 2, 2023. It was a beautiful island!  We were greeted by dolphins - they never get old!  However, we were also greeted by the infamous Noseeum bugs!  Holy moly - bugs love me!  I had so many bites! My new perfume became Off or whatever bug spray was available.

On Jekyll Island, we stayed at the Jekyll Harbor Marina.  It was $2.50 a foot and was a great stop.  They had all the necessary amenities, plus a restaurant/bar, loaner bicycles and loaner golf carts!  How fun is that!

We took a golf cart around the island and also went to Driftwood Beach.  It was such a gorgeous beach - huge trees/driftwood were everywhere.  It makes you wonder what happened to the trees.  You could walk quite a distance and just be in awe of the scenery.  However, we only had the golf cart for a couple of hours, so we had to leave.

We also took the bikes, to Sharks Tooth Beach, on our quest of finding shark’s teeth.  We found a couple - not the prettiest beach but worth it for the teeth!  Plus the bike paths were excellent! They wound through the forest amongst trees, grasses and little traffic! And we saw another alligator - we keep thinking it might be our last alligator to see.

Our friends, Jill and Joel, on Smile with the Risin’ Sun and Rusty snd Darleen, on Bama breeze were at Jekyll Island, so we had a nice time with them - dinner and drinks at the marina restaurant.

One thing about Jekyll Island I should mention, especially for boaters, is you don’t want to travel at low tide.  Lots of shallow depth at low tide; you really need to look at the tides and plan your route accordingly. Jeff really likes an app called My Tides App and of course the Windy App (the red one).  It really helps with currents, tides, wind, etc., necessary planning tools!

We had a great time on Jekyll Island!  I forgot to mention that there was a sea turtle center and as much as I love sea turtles, we just decided not to do it.   We just couldn’t fit it in the schedule.  The island is a quaint, clean, sleepy place, with Spanish moss hanging off of Live Oak Trees, beautiful bike trails and beaches - simply gorgeous!  And the marina was a definite plus, offering such great amenities!
