St. Ours

Image
Sunsets never get old!                  Boomerang and Stay Cool on the lock wall.                             Entering or exiting the lock?                                    Looks like a castle.                                     So many churches!                   Beautiful temples rising up from the trees!                    Another church - quite elaborate spire!                                    Loving the landscape.                            So many churches on the water! We decided to stop at St. Ours Lock Wall,  basically, we had traveled as much as we wanted to and this looked like a nice stop. We’ve purchased the Canada Parks Pass, so the walls are free; electric is a small fee, but the exchange rate of currency is good right now - it’s approximately $1CA = $.75US, a bonus for us! The lock walls in Canada are park like settings. Normally, the grounds are very pretty; a renovated dock master’s house being used as an office, picnic tables, fl

Chambly Locks

Image
Jeff and I. One of the swing bridges. We visited Firt Chambly. The fort. A slot in the walls for firing guns.                                  Such a uniques bridge.                                        Some graffiti.     The lock masters headquarters - most of these are restored.                                      One of the locks.                                     Lock wall at sunset.                                     Beautiful cruising.                            Lots of ducks and their babies.                      Gorgeous sunset of a church’s steeple.                    Boomerang and Stay Cool on the lock wall.                                                                                                                                                                                                           Our first set of locks in Canada - the Chambly Locks and I think it 9 locks - so many I lost count. It was beautiful cruising; going through narrow channels and passi

Rouses Point, NY

Image
We’re seeing both flags at Rouses Point!    We saw Fort Montgomery - it was built in 1844 to defend the            United States from British Canada. Also referred to as         “Fort Blunder,” due to some messed up boundary lines.                                            Look it up.                                       Pretty cruising!  Today is May 29 and tomorrow we will be in Canada. We’re staying at Gaines Marina. We will go through customs first thing in the morning. There’s a port of entry station that we dock on and Jeff will go in with our passports.  Only one person can enter the station. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly. We’ve heard various stories, such as no veggies, no meat, etc. but we’ve researched what is permitted into the country and we should be fine.   Our plan is to spend the summer in Canada.  We will travel up through Lake Champlain to the Richelieu River and then to the St. Lawrence Seaway.  We will end up in Montreal.  Everyone says

Burlington, Vermont

So pretty! The kids were enjoying the fountain. Cute downtown. Nice stone sculptures. Mermaid sculpture. Another sculpture.            Lake Champlain and The Adirondack Mountains.                                          A lighthouse.                          Another view of the lighthouse.            Now that’s some deep water on Lake Champlain.                                     Gorgeous sunsets!                                           Beautiful! Burlington was a great stop!  We stayed at Boathouse Marina, which was right downtown. The downtown are had so much to do - it was a place I could return to. Lots of stores, restaurants, pubs, breweries, etc. and with a modern, upbeat, small town feel. The view was spectacular! It’s always so pretty with water and mountains!  Boathouse Marina had showers, power and water.  Their gas was a bit expensive so we went to another marina to gas up.

Whitehall, NY

The picturesque town of Whitehall, NY. So pretty. I think it’s an otter.                                                Ducks.                                            Fisherman.                                     On the Hudson River.                                 The “Shack” - literally.                                    The Skeen Mansion.    “Whitehall, NY; Birthplace of the US Navy; We will never                                      Forget our Veterans.”                                  The town of Whitehall.          The bowling alley at the Elks Lodge - still in use!                             Boomerang on the dock wall.                           Our motor vessel, Boomerang.                                      Such a calm day!                      The small log cabin at Whitehall, NY.             They probably allow people to tour at certain times.                       The bed and woodstove in the cabin.                             The Skeen Mansion at night. What a cute
