MONTREAL

A wedding in the city!
We walked through this section everyday from the boat.

Took the subway to The Biodome. I’m thankful Rachel is here.

A bustling Montréal street.
Another view.
St. Lawrence River. Nobody mentioned the swift current!
We passed a couple of ships.  The St. Lawrence is a major thoroughfare for transporting goods to/from the Great Lakes.
They pour thick maple syrup on ice then wrap it around a wooden popsicle stick - maple taffy!
This guy coming at you on a narrow channel of water! Pretty intimidating!
Making the maple taffy on snow (ice).
Outside the Biodome.

People having fun!
Notre Dame.

I’m eating maple taffy on snow.
Saying prayers/lighting candles at Notre Dame Cathedral.
                          Me, Rachel, Malcolm and Jeff.
One of the many restaurants - the flowers aren’t real.
                                Another cute restaurant.
                                  Notre Dame Cathedral.
                                     A war monument.
A clock tower across the water.
                          The Olympics were held here.
You can see the rings & USA Flag.

Another church - very nice too.
Beautiful flowers in a park near our marina.
                                  Such a pretty street!!

Maple ice cream with maple syrup and a maple cookie!
                              Dinner with our friends!
A typical Montréal street - many stone buildings. The city burned once and after that, buildings had to build with stone.
We didn’t go - but looked like fun!

                                    Inside Notre Dame.

                                Candles in Notre Dame.
We were in a mall. On display were mannequins decorated in flowers, representing different countries/cities. This was NYC.

We went to a Mount Royal Park, located on a hill overlooking
                                             The city.
                        Beautiful views from Mount Royal.
                                      Another view.
A cross at the Mount Royal Park.

I had to title this MONTRÉAL in all caps, because I’ve been so excited to get here.  I’ve heard so much about this beautiful city and can’t believe we’re here!

We’re staying at Port d’escale du Vieux-Port de Montréal. Most people just say Old Port, which I believe is what all of that means. It’s an old, charming city, with cobblestone streets, old buildings, tons of restaurants and pubs.

We’re with our friends, Malcolm and Rachel on Stay Cool.  They’re Canadians and live in Vancouver; just really good people.

Rachel and I went to the Biodome Museum, a huge nature park housed in a building, which was part of Olympic Park. The Biodome housed five distinct ecosystems, with over 500 a plant species and 4500 animals.  We went from the humid, tropical rainforest, (sweating profusely), to the freezing, Antarctic Zone (felt good). There were also habitats for animals/plants in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Maple Forest, and gulf of Atlantic zones. It was pretty cool.

Basilica Notre Dame was beautiful! Gorgeous, stained glass windows throughout, statues and so many candles. I was a little disappointed in the ceiling - I had expected paintings of angels and cherubs covering the ceiling; I guess thats the Sistine Chapel. It was still a beautiful church! It’s weird, but you truly feel closer to God here.

Jeff, Rachel and I walked to Mount Royal, a hill that gives spectacular views of the city. It was a long walk, so we walked a part of it and then took a bus. Lots of trails throughout the park; it was pretty big. I think we walked around 12 miles that day?!

Initially, our plan was to only stay in Montréal for a couple of days but weather had a different plan for us. We stayed 4 nights, which was fine by me - more time to see things!
