Beaufort, SC, pronounced “Bue-fert,” is another charming town, full of friendly people and southern hospitality. We stayed at Lady’s Island Marina. The dock master was so nice. We received the best directions to our slip in an email and he was there to catch our lines and help us tie up. They had showers, restaurant, pump out and laundry. This marina wasn’t right downtown; you had to walk across the bridge, but we enjoy walking anyway.
We ended up staying here for 5 nights. There was some weather that came in and we just didn’t feel comfortable leaving. They were so kind and just let us decide day by day, as to how long we needed to stay. Then after staying 5 nights, they gave us a weekly rate, because it was less expensive than paying the daily rate. That was so nice!
We enjoyed the town of Beaufort. We just happened to hit the first Friday of the month, which is a festival in town. Music was playing and the stores were open later. They also had a car show. There were restaurants, museums and art galleries. We enjoyed a pizza from a local pizzeria in town. In one of the art galleries, we met a couple who were so interested in the loop. They ended up giving us both a hug and had our picture taken with the local newspaper photographer!
Did you know that parts of the movie, Forest Gump, was filmed here? I was told he ran across the bridge that you see in the pictures. They’re very proud of that!
